Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver

  • Replacement shoes and wings

If your Hayward pool vacuum becomes too slow to clean your pool effectively, the vacuum likely has a blockage or the shoes and wings need to be replaced. Shoes and wings have wear indicators for determining when they require replacement. If these items are not yet worn, look for blockages in the pool vacuum to boost suction and speed.

Step 1

Turn off the pool pump and remove the vacuum from the pool. Loosen and pull out the leader hose. Turn the vacuum over and unscrew the screws on the bottom cover. Lift off the cover and clean any debris from the turbine or vacuum chamber.

Step 3

Turn the vacuum over and insert a screwdriver between the foot and shoe to replace the shoes. Lift off each shoe from the foot. Place each replacement shoe in the water and attach it to the foot. Situate the small post into the small hole and the large post into the large hole.

Step 4

Insert a screwdriver underneath the plug on the pods. Bend the wings up and lift them off their hooks. Place the replacement wings in their place, matching the "R" and "L" with the letters printed on the pod. Replace the plugs and push them in with the bottom of the screwdriver.

Tip

Sometimes the pool vacuum is slow because of accumulation in the filter. Clean the filter to restore suction to the vacuum.
