How to Buy a Telemark Boot

Boots are the most important piece of equipment in telemark skiing. Get the correct boots and you'll be ripping down the mountain in no time.

  • Thick Socks
  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Boots
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
  1. Step 1

    Look in your wallet and decide how much cash you can spend on boots. New telemark boots cost between $200 and $500.

  2. Step 2

    Choose between buying leather or plastic boots. Plastic boots offer superior support and are the common boot of choice today. Leather boots often flex easier, are more comfortable and are the classic telemark boot.

  3. Step 3

    Select a boot that that has a cuff that extends above the ankle for support. Most modern leather and plastic boots extend halfway up the shin.

  4. Step 4

    Spend some time with the salesperson getting a proper fit. Your foot should feel snug in the boot with no pinching and your toes should be near the end of the boot but not quite touching.

  5. Step 5

    Buckle the boot. You should be able to adjust the buckles anywhere from a loose fit to a tight fit.
