How to Enable Disk Use on an iPhone thumbnail
Use third party computer applications that treat your iPhone like a file disk.

The iPhone does not natively support disk use, which means you will have to download and install additional software to achieve this goal. Software such as TouchCopy and DiskAid allows you to transfer your files and folders between your devices, without having to jailbreak your phone. You will be able to transfer information such as music and video between devices, as well as back up your text messages, contacts, voice mail and call history onto your computer.

Instructions

  1. TouchCopy

    • 1

      Download and install TouchCopy (see link in Resources.)

      Open the application and click past the welcome screen.

    • 3

      Connect your iPhone to your computer.

    • 4

      Drag and drop the files or folders you want to transfer from your computer into TouchCopy to add them to your iPhone.

      Select the item you would like to transfer from your iPhone to your computer and click the "Copy to PC" or "Copy to Mac" button on the TouchCopy control bar.

    DiskAid and FileApp

    • 6

      Download and install FileApp onto your iPhone and DiskAid onto your computer (links in Resources). These two applications work together.

      Launch DiskAid and connect your iPhone to your computer.

      Click the "Storage" option in the DiskAid sidebar.

      Select the "FileApp" option.

      Drag and drop your files to transfer them between devices.

    PhoneView

      Download and unzip the program and drag the "PhoneView" file to your "Applications" folder.

      Connect your iPhone to your Mac.

      Open the "PhoneView" application.

    • 14

      Choose the "Disk" option in the sidebar.

      Click the "Copy to iPhone" option and choose the file you would like to transfer to your iPhone. You can also drag and drop the files into the folder of your choice.

      Select the files you would like to transfer from your iPhone and click the "Copy From iPhone" option. You can also drag and drop the files onto your computer.
