New home owners need all kinds of gadgets and tools to help them get settled into their new place. If you've got a home owner on your Santa list, here are some ideas for stuffing his or her stocking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Brushes
  • Ribbons

  • Lawn Edgers
  • Measuring Tapes
  • Plastic Drop Cloths
  • Rollers
  • Subscription To A Home Improvement Magazines
  • Home Improvement Store Gift Certificates
  • Home Design Software
  • Home Remodeling Software
  • Hooks
  • Common Nails
  • Hammers
  • Levels
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver Sets
  • Wrenches

Step1
Buy a home architecture or remodeling software package if the new home owner plans to renovate or add on.
Step2
Toss in a selection of household tools such as screwdrivers, a hammer, a level, pliers, wrenches and a tape measure.
Step3
Tuck in some books on general home improvement and repairs, or a paid subscription card for a home improvement magazine.
Step4
Consider a selection of garden tools if the home owner has a garden or sizable yard with the new house.
Step5
Include a gift certificate to the local home improvement center. At some stores, you can buy a premade card (which looks like a credit card) in denominations of $10, $25, $50 or $100.
Step6
Assemble various picture-hanging supplies - nails, hooks, and a hammer and level if you haven't already stuffed these into the stocking.
Step7
Wrap painting tools - brushes, rollers, an edging tool, plastic drop cloths - with a bow and tuck the bundle into the stocking.
Step8
Purchase a gift certificate for a closet organizing system and package it with a catalog of available components.

Tips & Warnings

  • Think about what will be most useful to your recipient. Is the new home owner a do-it-yourselfer (think about tools as a gift) or a novice (consider a good basic book or software package)? Does the home need a lot of work? Does it have a large yard?
