Personalize your Apple device by changing its name.

You don’t have to restart or reset your Apple device -- such as an iPhone or iPad -- to change its name. Whether you are simply tired of your device’s current name or you inherited a used Apple device, you can use the iTunes desktop application or the Settings menu in iOS to rename it. Both options enable you to change the name at any time. However, you need to connect the device to your computer to change the name through iTunes.

Instructions

      Start iTunes and connect your Apple device to the computer.

      Click the device's button -- such as the iPhone button -- to open the Summary window.

      Click on the device's name to select it.

      Delete the current name and enter the new name.

      Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to save the new name. ITunes automatically syncs the new name to your Apple device.

      Tap "Settings" on your Apple device's Home screen.

      Tap "General" and then select "About."

      Tap the "Name" section to open the Name screen.

      Remove the current name and type the new name.

      Tap the "Done" button to complete the process.
