Instructions

    • 1

Using scissors, cut the sleeves off your oversized T-shirt. At the back of the T-shirt, mark a line from side seam to side seam starting from the armpits. Use a ruler to clean up the line. Using scissors, cut along the line you have just drawn. Now cut the rest of that panel out by cutting along the bottom of the shirt's collar at the back.

Try on the shirt inside out. Mark how you would like your dress to fit with pins along the center back of the dress. Remove dress. Using the pins as a guide, mark the new center seam with chalk. Clean up the line with a ruler. Using your sewing machine, sew along the chalk line with a straight stitch, creating a new center seam.

Sew a zig-zag seam beside the new center seam you have just sewn. Cut excess fabric. Cut out 1 meter strips of 1/2-inch-wide ribbon with scissors. Sew a ribbon onto each side of the halter dress near the bust. Tie at the back for desired fit.

Measure the circumference of the skirt's hem. Cut out a piece of lace at this length. Using a straight stitch, sew lace onto the hem of the dress. Add lace to the collar of the dress by measuring the front of the collar and cutting out a piece of lace that is the same length. Sew onto front of collar.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also include embroidering beads onto the hem using a needle, thread and beads in a similar or contrasting color to the dress. Fabric paints and marker can also be used to add patterns and designs. The entire dress can also be dyed with fabric dye if desired, or you can try dyeing just the hem for a dip-dye effect.
