Many HP computers offer a special key with a crescent moon graphic. This graphic indicates the Sleep button. When pressed, the computer enters a lower power state that uses just enough energy to maintain your data in the internal memory. Unfortunately, its placement on the keyboard makes it prone to accidental activation by careless typists. If the button offers more grief than benefit, consider disabling it; you can always enter sleep mode from within Windows.
Type "Power Options" from your HP's Start screen, click "Settings" and select "Change What the Power Buttons Do."
Click the "When I Press the Sleep Button" drop-down menu under the On Battery column to disable the Sleep button when the computer is operating under battery power.
Click the "When I Press the Sleep Button" drop-down menu under the Plugged In column to disable the Sleep button when the computer is plugged in to a wall outlet.
Click "Save Changes."
Click "X" to exit the Power Options window.
