How to Get the Best Picture on a Sony Handycam

Whether vacations, weddings, birthday parties or kid's soccer games, video camcorders can record special moments in time for you to keep forever or share with friends and family. Of course, it it might be more difficult to enjoy your recorded videos if the image quality isn’t up to par; choppiness, pixilation and graininess are a few of the video artifacts that can impact low-quality recordings. Set your Sony Handycam camcorder’s recording quality to its highest settings to make sure that your recorded memories look the best that they can.

  • Press or touch the “Home” button and select “Settings.”

  • Select “Movie Settings” and select “Rec Mode.” Select the “HQ” option or “HD HQ” option, if available on your model. Some high definition models (HDR series) can also use “HD FH” or “HD FX” mode for an even higher image resolution.

  • Press the “Menu” button to return to the “Movie Settings” screen.

  • Select “Audio Mode” and select the “Surround” option.

  • Press the “Menu” button to return to the “Movie Settings” screen.

  • Select “Steadyshot” and set it to “On.”

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a tripod while shooting video to decrease camera shake and motion blur.
  • If you have a high definition model (HDR series), you can also set the “X.V. Color” option to “On” for more vivid color reproduction. Find this option in the “Movie Settings” menu.
  • Higher quality settings will result in reduced available recording time and will consume available storage space quicker.
