How to Sand a Ceiling

This daunting task can be done 2 ways.

Instructions

1. Set up a scaffold in the room.

2. Use a palm-size orbital sander with medium-grit sandpaper.

3. Start in one corner of the room and work your way across methodically. Some people prefer to use an imaginary grid, others work from one side to the other in a sweeping motion.

4. Try a method that doesn't require climbing or power tools: Remove the sponge from a sponge mop. You'll need the type of mop that allows you to change the sponge.

5. Wrap a piece of medium-grit sandpaper around the sponge and put it back onto the mophead. In some cases, you may have to secure it by wrapping wide rubber bands around the sponge lengthwise. (Don't cover the face.)

6. Sand away!

Tips & Warnings

• Lock the scaffold wheels so that it doesn't roll while you are working.

• Be sure to choose a mop that allows you to reach the ceiling.

• Be sure to wear a dust mask and safety goggles when you sand overhead.
