Wigs and hair extensions are popular cosmetic accessories. They're also a low cost alternative to hair restoration, especially after certain therapies and baldness. Silk top lace closures are 4-inch by 4-inch pieces that are added to the crown of your head as part of the braid weave process. It consists of a layer of lace, and silk fabric with knots that are concealed below between the silk layers, thereby giving an illusion that the hair is actually growing from your scalp. Silk top lace closures are readily available in a variety of textures and colors that suit your style. You may also make your own silk top lace closure.
Things You'll Need
- Lace closure
- 1/4 yard polyester fabric
- Black thread
- Glue stick
- Weaving needle
Choose a polyester or silk and cotton blend fabric. Make sure that the material isn't stretchy. The color of the fabric depends on the color of your scalp. Taupe, for example, is a popular color for individuals with darker skin tones.
Cut a piece of the fabric to 4 inches by 4 inches. Place it on the lace closure and trim the silk fabric so that the ends of the fabric line up with the ends of the lace closure.
Use the glue stick to attach the fabric to the lace. This will hold the fabric and lace in place. Sew the fabric onto the lace with a needle and black thread on all the sides except the front, where the lace attaches to the scalp.
Tips & Warnings
- The closure and fabric should be sewed tightly without gaps and folds. This will give the silk top a more realistic look.
