How to Use a Panasonic DMC-TZI as a Webcam

Save

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZI digital camera is ideal for taking pictures and recording videos, but the technology can be expanded to turn it into a home webcam. The webcam is compatible with a majority of software applications once the drivers are properly installed. Once running you can use the zoom, focus and other camera features while running your live webcam.

  • Plug the digital camera into a power outlet using the AC adapter and the DC-IN port on the camera. You cannot operate the camera as a webcam without using a power source other than the battery.

  • Plug the USB connection cable into the "Digital/AV Out" port on the side of the camera. Connect the other end of the USB cable into your computer.

  • Insert the Panasonic installation CD into the computer. Follow the directions to install the camera's drivers if you have never done this.

  • Turn the power on to the camera. It will automatically go to a computer connection on the back of the LCD screen. Press the "UP" arrow on the camera and press "Menu" to set the connection to "PC."

  • Spin the dial to the film reel icon to activate "Motion Picture Mode." Turn the camera off and back on if a live view does not appear on the LCD screen.

  • Open the webcam software that you want to use. Click on the Panasonic device to connect and test out the webcam.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the camera does not connect right away, turn it off and on multiple times to reset the connection. This is not primarily a webcam so these errors may occur while setting it up.
