Yahoo Chat uses the default Windows recording setting, which is typically the microphone input on your sound card. While this is generally the most useful method for communicating over Yahoo Chat, many sound cards also include the option to record playback audio. This can be used for broadcasting music to other participants in Yahoo Chat. Change your default recording device to capture playback audio from within the Windows Sound Properties component.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the “Start” button. Type “mmsys.cpl” in the Search box and press “Enter.” This opens the Sound Properties component.

    • 2

Click to select the “Recording” tab. This displays a list of recording controls available for your sound card.

    • 3

Right-click in an empty area of the “Select a recording…” box and click to place a check mark next to “Show Disabled Devices.” This action displays all recording controls regardless if they are active or not.

    • 4

Right-click “Microphone” and click “Disable.” This disables the microphone control for recording purposes.

    • 5

Locate the “What You Hear,” “Stereo Mix,” “Stereo Out,” “Wave Out,” “Record Master” or other similarly worded control. This audio control is used to record the sound playing on your computer. Right-click the control and click “Enable.”

Open Yahoo Chat and your preferred media player. While a song is playing, press the “Talk” button in Yahoo Chat. Instead of Yahoo using your microphone, everyone participating in the room will hear your music.
