How to Autoformat Code in Notepad

Notepad++ is a free, open-source text editor for Windows computers that extends the functionality of Notepad, the basic text editor. The program supports multiple programming languages, including HTML, C++ and JavaScript. By default, the program doesn't format your code. To autoformat and clean up your code to remove unnecessary breaks and properly align tags, use the Notepad ++ HTML Tidy effect.

  • Click “Start,” “All Programs” and select “Notepad++.”

  • Click “File” and select “Open.” Select the desired Notepad file and click “Open.”

  • Highlight the code within the Notepad file.

  • Click “TextFX” from the top menu and select “TextFX HTML Tidy.”

  • Click “File” and select “Save.”
