How to Change the Radio in a BMW

by Alibaster Smith

The radio in your BMW may no longer work if you've had the vehicle for a long time. While BMW makes high-quality automobiles, the radio units are sometimes the low-end versions of popular models from companies like Bose. Aftermarket radios for BMW vehicles offer an exceptional upgrade to the factory unit. Once you've chosen your new radio, you'll need to know how to install it. Fortunately, changing the radio will only take you about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 1

Pry off the trim cover on the side of the right side of the radio using a flat-tip screwdriver.

Step 2

Remove the Phillips screw behind the trim cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the radio unit forward.

Step 3

Remove the antenna plug and the pinned connector on the back of the unit.

Step 4

Plug the pinned connector into the BMW converter cable.

Step 5

Plug the converter cable into the back of the aftermarket radio unit and plug the antenna cable into the input jack on the back of the new radio.

Step 6

Slide the unit back into the dash and tighten the retaining screw. Then push the trim cover back over the screw.
