How Can I Unlock My MDE After I Created It?

If you need to get access to the contents of an MDE file, you can do so by editing the Microsoft Access Database, or MDB, file that was used to create it. MDE is a file format for Microsoft Access that allows developers to secure databases that contain Visual Basic elements, such as forms or applications. Unfortunately, once an MDB database file has been compiled into an MDE file, end users cannot edit it. It is, however, possible to edit the original MDB file and use it to generate a new version of the MDE file.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Microsoft Access, click on the "Access" button and select "Open."

    • 2

Locate the MDB file that contains the database used to generate the MDE file and open it. If you do not remember where you saved the file, use Windows' search tool to locate it.

    • 3

Make all necessary changes to the database.

    • 4

Click on the "Access" button and select "Save As." From the "File type" drop-down menu, select "MDE" and click on the "Save" button to save the file in the same location.
