How to Host a Game in GMod
Short for Garry’s Mod, GMod is a one-player, online game that allows the user to manipulate objects, levels and the other items around them. It is unusual, though, in that it relies on the user running -- or hosting -- at least one other game through GMod. Any game available through the Steam platform on which GMod runs can work on the site. Hosting the game itself is simple, but what you do with it from there is up to you.

1
Download Steam, if you don’t have it already. You can only get GMod through Steam.
-
2
Install GMod in Steam, if you haven’t already. At the time of publication, it costs $9.95.
-
-
3
Install a second game in Steam, if you haven’t already. Steam has thousands of games, including most of the big titles, and GMod can run on any of them.
-
4
Open GMod and click “Start New Game.”
-
5
Click the name of the game you want to host in the next window. It will look like “Game Name (X maps).”
-
6
Choose the map you want to play from the hosted game, then click “Start Singleplayer.” You can now play the hosted game using GMod’s tools. It will not affect the basic game files, if you want to play them outside of GMod.
