How to Choose Sport Vs. Normal Mode for Transmission in a 2003 Accord
The 2003 Honda Accord has options located on the main shifter that allow you to choose between two types of driving – sport or normal. Generally, the sport mode provides a smoother transition when switching between gears, but it is less fuel-efficient. The normal mode provides greater fuel economy, but you may notice the car switching gears. Sport and normal modes only come equipped in a car that has an automatic transmission and extend the amount of time spent in a single gear. This increases the overall power and speed of the vehicle.

Switch between the modes by selecting either “normal” or “sport” mode. This will inform the computer to switch between the two modes. You can safely switch between modes while driving; the computer will switch between “sport” or “normal” mode when it becomes necessary to switch gears again. Since this is an automatic process, you don’t have to change the manner in which you drive.

Tips & Warnings
Driving in “normal” mode is best when driving through streets and towns. When driving on the highway, where the speeds are higher and you may need to pass cars, switch to “sport” mode.
Avoid quickly switching between “normal” and “sport” modes. This can put extra strain on your transmission and reduce its life.
