Determining the cubic inches gives you an accurate picture of the storage space available.       Measure the depth, length and height of the cabinet, using a tape measure. Convert the measurements to inches.

      Multiply the measurements by each other to determine the cubic inches. For example, a 12-by-14-by-34 inch cabinet is 5,712 cubic inches.

      Repeat the measurement and multiplication process for each cabinet. Add the cubic inches together for all the cabinets measured to determine the full amount of cubic inches of storage space available in the kitchen.

Tips & Warnings

  • For simplicity, you can convert the cubic inches back to feet afterward. Take the total number of cubic inches in the cabinet and divide it by the amount of cubic inches in a cubic foot, which is 1,728. For example, the 5,712 cubic inch cabinet contains a total of 3.3 cubic feet.
