How to Find the PXE Server

The Preboot Execution Environment server enables a computer to establish a connection to a network before its operating system loads and/or boots from a network drive. The PXE server utility is beneficial to network administrators because it enables the administrators to have more control over computers on the network, such as the ability to install software remotely. If you want to find the PXE server utility on your computer, open the System Setup or BIOS screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your computer and then press the necessary key to enter the "System Setup" or "Setup" screen. For example, to enter the System Setup screen on some computers, press the "F2" key immediately after the message to enter the Setup screen appears on the monitor. Use the arrow keys to navigate the menu and press the "Enter" key to select an item.

    • 2

Select "Integrated Devices" from the main menu screen to open the Integrated Devices screen. If the option to select Integrated Devices is not on the main menu screen, open the "Boot" or "Boot Order" screen.

    • 3

Select "Integrated Network Interface Controller," "Network Interface Controller" or "NIC" from the Integrated Devices screen. The PXE server options are displayed. For example, select "On with PXE" to enable the system to boot from the network.
