Newer versions of Winamp Lite are compatible with SHOUTcast.

Winamp is a free and highly customizable media player. You can play almost any audio or video file in AVI or WMV formats, sync your iPod or other media player and subscribe to podcasts. SHOUTcast is an Internet radio service where you can find and listen to thousands of radio stations. Older versions of Winamp Lite (the free version) were unable to play SHOUTcast media. By default, a SHOUTcast station is opened on the website, not in Winamp.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your favorite Web browser and navigate to Winamp.com/media-player and click on the "Download" button in the "Winamp Lite" box. Save the file on your computer.

    • 2

Double-click on the "winamp5623_lite_en-us.exe" file you just downloaded to start installing or updating Winamp. If your current Winamp Lite is not compatible with SHOUTcast, you have an older version. Follow the instructions on your screen to install or upgrade Winamp Lite.

    • 3

Double-click on the "Winamp" icon on your desktop or click once on the "Winamp" icon in the "Start" menu to start the software.

    • 4

Use your Web browser to navigate to Shoutcast.com/settings. You must set Winamp as the default program, so place a check mark next to the "Play SHOUTcast stations in default media player (eg: Winamp / iTunes / Windows Media Player)" option. You can also select your Internet connection speed.

Click on the "Save Settings" button to save the changes. Click on a radio station and it will open in Winamp by default.
