The key date variable controls the performance of time-dependent data

Web Intelligence is a business intelligence product by Business Objects that provides users with an interactive, self-service interface to produce and analyze reports of business information over the web. Developing Web Intelligence reports requires secure and authenticated access to the InfoView portal or Web interface. The key date variable defines the time-dependent characteristic of your universe or data source. Therefore, to enable time dependencies in your report, your query should include a key date variable.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the URL for the InfoView Web server in the address field of your browser

    • 2

Enter your log-in credentials when the Log On to BusinessObjects InfoView page appears, and click the "Log On" button.

    • 3

Point to the "New" menu item, and select "Web Intelligence Document" from the drop-down list that appears.

    • 4

Choose the universe you would like to use as the data source for your report. This will activate the Java Report Panel Edit Query view.

    • 5

Drag data objects from the "Data" tab to the "Result Objects" pane. These objects are grouped into classes and represent data you would like to use in your report. For example, within the universe you selected, you may have a Time Period class. Within that class, you could have data objects that include Year, Quarter or Month.

    • 6

Click the Key Date Control icon on the toolbar to access the Keydate Properties dialog. Specify whether you would like to use the default date or set a date.

    • 7

Select "Run Query" option on the toolbar to execute the report. This action will display the report in the "Edit Report" view.
