Ruby on Rails is an open source framework for creating Web applications using the Ruby programming language. Many websites use RoR. The framework makes coding simpler by using organizing tools that can help eliminate the need for redundant code and construct basic models, which can then be modified rather than having to create a model from scratch. Scaffolding is one of the tools of RoR. Scaffolding helps the user learn the RoR API and generate working app templates. ActiveScaffold is one scaffolding program choice, but there are others if ActiveScaffold doesn't suit your needs and you want to replace it.
Uninstall ActiveScaffold. Go to the application directory from which you wish to remove ActiveScaffold. Type in "ruby script/plugin remove active_scaffold" and select "Enter." Now that ActiveScaffold is removed, you can install a new plugin for scaffolds.
Choose Streamlined if you want a program similar to ActiveScaffold. Streamlined is the plugin most like ActiveScaffold in the way it functions. You can use it with one layout line, as long as you have previously set up your models and controllers. Streamlined does not work with Rails 2.3, but it is compatible with other versions of Rails. Streamlined comes with a pre-made admin layout. Run the install in the application directory according to the Streamlined instructions.
Choose Admin_data if your focus is on searchable information. Admin_data is a non-intrusive application that does not store any information in cookies or public folders. Admin-data is searchable with an advance search of individual columns as its main feature. It supports name space and gives the option of deleting or destroying records when you no longer need them. Run the install in the application directory according to the Admin_data instructions.
Choose Typus for good configuration abilities and access to a large user support group. Typus adds its own users table. Authentication and permissions are built in. Typus does not do as much of the work as some of the other programs, but it allows for much customization. Run the install in the application directory according to the Typus instructions.
Choose Hobo if you want much of your work done for you. Hobo lets you create apps without programming anything beyond the model layer. You can also choose to customize the application Hobo constructs for you. Once the basic app is created, customizations are easily done to make programs your own with little trouble. Run the install in the application directory according to the Hobo instructions.
