How to Connect Controls for iPad Apps

IPad apps have on-screen touch controls that you use to interact with the apps. However, you can connect your iPad to an external Bluetooth device and control some of your apps with the device. If you want to type a long document on your iPad, you can use an external keyboard rather than the iPad's touch keypad. Depending on the device you use, the connection process varies.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Bluetooth device on and make it discoverable; you may need to press a button on it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Tap "Settings" on your iPad home screen.

    • 3

      Tap "General" and "Bluetooth."

    • 4

Tap the Bluetooth "On/Off" slider to the "On" position to activate it. Your iPad searches for nearby Bluetooth devices.

    • 5

Tap the name of your controller device in the list that appears. You may be prompted to follow specific instructions to connect the device. For keyboards, type the unique PIN that your iPad generates. For other devices, press a button on the device or a sequence of buttons in a specific order. Refer to the controller's instructions and follow on-screen instructions for details. After the controller is paired with the iPad, you can use it with apps.
