You can make any plastic gallon jug into a drinking fountain with a plastic valve. These are handy for camping trips, working in the garden or anywhere you might need extra water. You can drink out of the jug without using your hands and the water stays clean. Or you can open the spigot and let the water drain into a glass. The advanced "technology" of the water jug drinking spigot relies on a time tested device that can be used on jugs of any size.

Things You'll Need

  • 11/16-inch Forstner drill bit
  • Cordless drill
  • Plastic water valve
  • Rubber band (optional)

Instructions

      Drill a hole 1-inch up from the bottom of the jug using a 7/16-inch drill bit and cordless drill.

      Insert the end of the plastic valve into the opening.

    • 3

      Turn the valve clockwise slowly until it is tight. Give it one more turn to get the end of the valve opening pointed straight down if you need to.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill the jug with water. If the spigot leaks, remove it and wrap a rubber band around the threads two times. This will work as a gasket to seal the leak.

  • Make absolutely sure that your jug is clean before filling it with drinking water. Any leftover residue from previous liquids in the jug can be harmful.

  • Always use a Forstner drill bit. They cut using a different concept that ordinary drill bits to cut cleaner and more precise.
