How to Change Oil in a 2006 Susuki Ozark
The 2006 LT-F250 Ozark represented the midway point of Suzuki's popular utility all-terrain vehicle series, which was produced from 2002 to 2009. The Ozark relied on a 246 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that could provide enough power to suit most tasks that a landowner could throw at it. However, keeping the friction and wear within the engine required a fresh supply of oil every six months. During operation, the oil will begin to thin, reducing its ability to lubricate the engine's internal components. The procedure is fairly straightforward, allowing most Ozark owners to perform the oil change themselves with basic tools.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- 10 mm socket
- Socket wrench
- 17 mm socket
- Oil catch pan
- Drain plug sealing washer
- Shop towels
- Torque wrench
- Oil filter
- 3 quarts, SAE 10W-40 Type SF engine oil
Instructions
-
-
1
Park the ATV on a level, well-ventilated work surface and set the parking brake. Start the engine and let it idle in place for three minutes, then stop the engine and let the oil settle for five minutes.
-
2
Remove the right floorboard to provide access to the oil filter and the right engine cover, using a Phillips screwdriver and a 10 mm socket and a socket wrench.
-
-
3
Unscrew the oil cap and dipstick from the top of the left engine cover. Unscrew the drain plug from the bottom of the engine crankcase, using a 17 mm socket. Drain the engine oil into an oil catch pan until the flow of oil slows to a light drip.
-
4
Pull the sealing washer off of the drain plug, then wipe the plug's threads and tip with a shop towel. Slip a new sealing washer onto the drain plug. Screw the drain plug into place and tighten it to 15 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench.
-
5
Remove the round oil filter cover, located below the right engine cover, using a 10 mm socket. Inspect the oil filter cover O-ring for tears. Replace the O-ring if it is damaged in any way. Pull the oil filter spring and oil filter out of the engine.
-
6
Coat the new oil filter's O-ring with SAE 10W-40 Type SF engine oil. Push the oil filter into the engine, O-ring first. Place the oil filter spring into the recession at the center of the oil filter. Coat the oil filter cover O-ring with engine oil, then push the cover into place. Tighten the oil filter cover bolts to 7.6 foot-pounds.
-
7
Fill the engine with two quarts of engine oil through the oil filler neck at the top of the right engine cover. Screw the oil cap into place.
-
8
Start the engine and let it idle in place for three minutes to warm the fresh oil. Stop the engine and let the oil settle for five minutes. Unscrew the oil cap and wipe the dipstick clean, using a shop towel. Insert the dipstick into the filler neck until the oil cap threads are resting on the right engine cover. Withdraw the dipstick and look at the oil level compared to the upper and lower marks on the dipstick's tip. Add one to two ounces of oil into the engine if the oil level is below the dipstick's upper mark, then recheck the oil level. Screw the oil cap into place.
-
9
Reinstall the right floorboard onto the ATV.

Tips & Warnings
Used engine oil contains trace elements of heavy metals that are extremely toxic. Store used engine oil in a sealed container, out of the reach of children or animals, if you cannot dispose of the oil immediately.
Most Suzuki repair centers and automotive parts stores accept used engine oil for recycling.
