How to Set Up a Live Stream Podcast for HD
Live streaming podcasts allow audio and video data to be broadcast to a mass audience via the Internet. Most live-streaming platforms, such as Livestream, provide the content creator with a URL that directs viewers to the creator’s podcast page. Live-streaming platforms support high-definition video and audio as long as the content creator has an HD-capable webcam and microphone. Podcasts recorded and transmitted in HD do require more system resources than standard podcasts.

1
Connect your HD-capable webcam or camera to your computer. Connect your microphone if you intend to use one.

2
Navigate to a video-streaming podcast platform that supports HD, such as Livestream. If using Livestream, register, open an account and create a channel for your live streaming broadcast. Livestream requires no downloads. If using a downloaded live streaming platform, you will be presented with an installation wizard. Follow the wizard’s prompts and agree to the terms of use. Click “Install” and then click “Finish.”

3
Set the audio options in your video-streaming software. Live-streaming platforms have an options menu. Click "Options" on the interface followed by the tab for audio settings on the drop-down menu. Select your audio input device and configure recording parameters as needed. Audio options include recording in 8-bit or 16-bit format, in stereo or mono, and choosing from wavelengths ranging from 11.025 kHz to 44.1 kHz. Most video-streaming programs allow you to record audio in a compressed format.

4
Set your video recording options in your program’s video options menu. Click “Options” followed by the button for video settings. Select your HD video-input device from the drop-down menu and the video compressor you will use. Most streaming programs set Microsoft Video 1 as the default compressor, but options include Intel IYUV codec and X-Vid MPEG 4 codec. You can adjust the quality of the recording by configuring the packet size, or the amount of data, in bytes, sent at one time. You can also adjust the frame rate, or the frequency that the video-streaming program records frames. The higher the frequency of recorded frames, the more data will be sent in each packet, which affects the streaming rate.

5
Use the Effects menu to add annotations to your podcast. Types of annotations include watermarks, captions and timestamps.
-
6
Locate the Web address of your podcast. Livestream and similar programs display the URL of the podcast on the user interface. Promote your podcast using the program’s promote feature, which allows users to employ social-media platforms to advertise their content. You can also promote your podcast on personal and professional Web pages by embedding a link to the podcast using the streaming program’s embed function.
-
7
Click “Go Live” on the Livestream interface to start broadcasting. Click the “Stop” button to terminate the podcast. If using another streaming program, you’ll click “File” and then “Record.” Click the two vertical bars to pause in video-streaming software, or you can click “File” followed by “Pause.” Stop recording by opening the "File" menu and clicking “Stop.”
