How to Troubleshoot a Thermoforming Ram Press
A thermoforming ram press is a vital piece of machinery on an assembly line, and typically the rest of the line is balanced around the operating speed of the press. An improperly calibrated thermoforming ram press will operate at only a fraction of its maximum efficiency, and should immediately be attended to. Troubleshooting a thermoforming ram press takes patience and time, and should only be attempted by a trained technician.
Instructions

Heating Issues
-
1
Check the product for the appearance of folds or wrinkles, as the presence of either indicates overheating. Reduce the heating time and intensity of the press.
-
2
Reduce the heating time and intensity of the press if the product is showing discoloration or glossy patches.
-
-
3
Verify that the product exiting the press is completely formed and still warm to the touch. If the product is deformed and cold to the touch, increase both the heating time and intensity.
-
4
Reduce both the heating time and intensity if the product is sagging or begins to stick to the form.
Material Issues
-
5
Verify that the stock material conforms to specifications if the product shows no consistency between consecutive samples. This is a sign there is a defect with the stock material and quality control procedures should be initiated.
-
6
Verify that the material entering the machine has been properly cleaned and dried if any dirt or debris appears on the finished product
-
7
Check that the stock material meets the recommended specifications for thickness if the product has inclusions or bubbles. This indicates that the stock material being used is of improper gauge.
Tooling Issues
-
8
Check to ensure that the recommended vacuum pressure is being maintained if the material is not being distributed evenly. Also verify that all vacuum intakes are clear from obstruction.
-
9
Sharpen or service the tool head if a layer of trapped air begins to appear between the material and the form.
-
10
Inspect all lines and hoses if condensation or water is forming on the product.
