With a standard plastic foam cup, you can create your own jellyfish that hangs freely from your ceiling. Since jellyfish exist in so many variations, any color that you choose works. Make just one jellyfish or several in different colors creating a colorful colony of jellyfish perfect for displaying in a child's bedroom or in a science classroom.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic foam cup
  • Crepe paper streamers, any color
  • Acrylic paint, same color as the streamers
  • 2 googly eyes
  • Craft glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

      Turn a Styrofoam cup upside down. Poke two small holes in the base of the cup using a pencil.

      Turn a plastic foam cup upside down. Poke two small holes in the cup’s base with a pencil.

      Cut the cup in half, and set the top half with the opening aside.

      Paint the bottom half using acrylic paint in a color of your choice. Let the paint thoroughly dry.

      Cut a 6-inch piece of yarn. Thread the yarn through the holes in the cup’s base and tie a knot, forming a loop for hanging the finished jellyfish.

      Cut four 2-foot pieces of crepe paper streamers in a color that matches the paint on the cup’s base.

      Gluing two googly eyes to the cup completes the jellyfish craft. Check that all glue is completely dry before hanging the craft from the ceiling.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have crepe paper streamers, use several pieces of yarn for the jellyfish's tentacles.
