How to Create Web Outlines for a Report
Before construction of a website begins, it is especially important to have a comprehensive report of how the site is structured. A properly designed Web outline will describe the purpose of the website as well as its overall feel. The outline should contain a list of each section and a description of what content will appear on every individual page. The outline needs to describe all features included on each page such as social networking, user accounts, comments, etc. The client should give personal input during this phase as well as approve the final outline before programming begins.
Instructions
-
Create the Introduction
-
1
State the primary objective of the website in the first paragraph of the introduction. The objective should be clear and concise.
-
2
Describe the overall look of the website in the second paragraph. Explain color choices and design elements along with the rationale for choosing them.
-
-
3
State the technical requirements for hosting the website along with the type of programming that will be used, such as HTML-5, Flash, PHP, etc.
-
4
End the introduction with a paragraph that gives the approximate time needed for completion and an estimated budget.
Structure the Website
-
5
List the website's home page at the top of the outline. From here, all subcategories will be listed underneath in a bullet point structure.
-
6
Indent the next line and use a bullet point to list the first major subpage. Continue listing each major subpage on its own individual line.
-
7
Indent the next line under a major subpage and use another bullet point to describe a minor subpage. Continue listing each minor subpage on its own individual line. If minor subpages have subpages of their own, continue indenting and listing them.
