How to Change the Oil Filter in a 1995 F-250 LT 4X4
The 1995 Ford F-250 was available in three sub-model packages; the XL, XLT, and Special. The 1995 Ford F-250 XLT trucks were equipped primarily with a 5.8-liter V-8 engine, though a 4.9-liter V-6 was available. The truck was available with two- or four-wheel drive. The oil filters on the 4.9-liter and the 5.8-liter are known as spin-on filters. They are externally mounted to the engine, near the oil pump. Both oil filters are easily accessed from below the truck.

1
Raise the front of the F-250 with a jack. Place jack stands beneath the front lower frame rails on the two-wheel-drive, or beneath the axle housing on a four-wheel-drive model. Lower the truck onto the jack stands.

2
Lay beneath the front bumper of the truck to access the oil filter. Place your drain pan beneath the oil filter.

Apply a filter wrench to the oil filter. Turn the filter counterclockwise to remove it from the truck. Place your hand on the filter once it is loosened, and flip the filter upside down into your drain pan once it is removed. Wipe the oil off of your hand and arm with a towel or shop rag, if needed.

Apply a small coating of fresh motor oil to the new oil filter O-ring gasket. Wipe the engine oil filter mounting base with a clean rag. Install the new oil filter, and tighten the filter by hand. Turn the filter until you cannot turn it any farther by hand. Install your filter wrench on the filter, and turn the filter 1/2-turn to ensure that it is secured on the engine tightly.

5
Open the hood of the truck. Add motor oil to the engine until the oil level is between the hot and cold hash marks on the dipstick. The 4.9-liter and 5.8-liter engines both use 6 quarts of 5w20 motor oil when you change both the oil and filter. If you changed only the oil filter, you should not need much more than 1/2-quart of oil. Set and lock the oil fill cap when you are finished adding oil.

Tips & Warnings
Wiping the engine oil filter mounting base clean, will help you ensure that your old filter gasket did not stick to the mounting base. Always clean the mounting base, and double check the old filter for the presence of the O-ring gasket.
