How to Make Designs With the Typing Keys
If you want to create artwork on your computer but don't have image editing software or a scanner, you can still create complex images using a text editor and the printable characters on your keyboard. This type of artwork, known as ASCII art, consists of images produced by keyboard characters. ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange, and ASCII art is created by lining characters up with one another to produce images.
Instructions

1
Click "Start" and type "Notepad" into the search bar. Press Enter to open Notepad.
-
2
Click "Format" and "Font." Change the font to Courier. This font is fixed-width, meaning that all character spaces are the same width; which prevents misaligned text.
-
-
3
Draw your image on graph paper.
-
4
Start from the top left grid of the graph. Each grid represents a text character. Type the text character that most closely matches the mark in the grid. For example, a horizontal line going through the center of the grid could be a minus symbol. A forward slash or backslash could represent a diagonal line.
-
5
Work your way through the grid and compare. Experiment with characters to find which ones best suit your image.
