How to Fix the Glass on Your Plasma TV
Plasma displays contain millions of colored fluorescent lights, called cells, illuminated by plasma comprised of xenon and neon gases. The plasma is located between two plates that sit behind the front glass screen – the most commonly damaged area of the display. Minor cracks are easily fixed by filling them in with a clear viscous substance, such as petroleum jelly. You can gauge the extent of the damage to the screen by checking for moisture around the cracked area. Moisture indicates gas has escaped and the television requires a professional repair.
Instructions

1
Unplug the television and check the damaged area for any moisture. If you find moisture do not attempt the repair, as the gases have escaped.
-
2
Illuminate the damaged area with a flashlight to identify the location of the crack. Hairline cracks are often not visible with the power off.
-
-
3
Apply a generous amount of petroleum jelly in and around the damaged area. Do not allow the petroleum jelly to come in contact with any other surface of the television.
-
4
Rub the petroleum jelly in the damaged area with a microfiber cloth. Use a gentle circular motion when applying the petroleum jelly. A microfiber cloth is imperative to the success of the repair; other cloth materials, such as cotton, may cause additional damage to the screen..
-
5
Wipe away any excess petroleum jelly. Again, use a gentle circular motion. Examine the crack again under the light of the flashlight to ensure an even application.
-
6
Plug the television in and power it up. If the screen functions, you have successfully repaired it. If not, contact a professional repair service.
