How to Import From AutoCAD to Revit Architecture

AutoCAD is a commercial program that allows users to design 2D and 3D representations of structures or objects. Revit Architecture, on the other hand, is a program that is only used to model buildings. Both programs were developed by the same company, Autodesk, Inc., allowing convenient importing and exporting between them.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Revit Architecture and open the "File" menu.

    • 2

Hover your cursor over "Import/Link" and click on "CAD formats."

    • 3

Activate the checkbox next to "Link." Select the layers you want to import, the color scheme and the import units. Optionally, also choose a specific positioning from the "Positioning" drop-down menu.

    • 4

Use the file browser to locate the AutoCAD file on your hard drive and click on "Open." AutoCAD files end with a .DWG file extension.
