How to Convert WTV Files to DVR-MS

The WTV file format is used to store television shows and other streaming video recorded through all versions of Windows Media Center in the Windows 7 operating system. Converting these WTV files to the DVR-MS format used by older versions of Windows Media Center allows you to share them with people who haven't upgraded to Windows 7 yet.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start" and select "Computer."

    • 2

Navigate to the location where the WTV files you want to convert are located. By default, Windows Media Center records to the "C:\Users\public\Recorded TV\" directory.

    • 3

Right-click the first file you want to convert and select "Convert to .dvr-ms Format." Windows will create a DVR-MS version of your file in the same directory, using the same name.

    • 4

Repeat this process for all other files you want to convert.
