How to Fix a Blurry JPEG When Enlarging on a Mac
The quality of an enlarged JPEG ultimately depends on the pixel resolution of the original image. If you've expanded the image beyond its original dimensions, that bit of blur may be inevitable. However, there may be other factors affecting your image quality as well. If you're using the built-in iPhoto software on your Mac, a few tricks can help you to get your image looking crystal clear.

1
Reset the zoom slider to 100 percent. If you are enlarging a photo simply by zooming in and not by increasing the actual dimensions, this can often make a photo look blurry. To reset the zoom, click the zoom buttons in the upper-left corner of the photo window until the window header reads "100%."

2
Open the File menu and select "Export." Select "JPEG" from the "Kind" menu. Select "High" from the "JPEG Quality" menu. Saving your image this way helps to preserve the quality of your photo after you have made changes.

Rebuild your iPhoto library. If iPhoto is displaying your stored images incorrectly, rebuilding the library can correct this problem. To begin, quit iPhoto. Press and hold the Command and Option keys. Keep holding these keys while relaunching iPhoto. Do not let go of the keys until you receive a pop-up prompt asking if you want to rebuild the library. A checklist of rebuild options will appear. Select the types of photos you want to rebuild. When finished, click "Rebuild." Depending on your library size, this may take several minutes.
