Weight-bearing shelves support heavy objects, such as mirrors, vases, books and picture frames. Installing these shelves on the wall typically involves drilling holes in the wall -- which provides maximum support. But if you want to avoid drilling holes, use an adhesive glue to support your shelf.

Step 3

Measure and determine a location for the shelf. Place and align a level against the wall. Draw a line with a pencil to mark this position.

Step 4

Support the shelf with brackets. Mark the locations for the brackets on the wall. Position a bracket at least every 18 inches for maximum support.

Step 5

Squeeze urethane adhesive glue along the back edges of the brackets.

Step 6

Press the bracket against the wall to transfer the urethane glue. Pull it away before the bracket adheres to the wall.

Step 7

Wait 10 minutes and then reposition the bracket against the wall. Press firmly and allow the bracket to attach to the wall. A small amount of adhesive might drip from the sides of the brackets. Wipe excess glue with a damp cloth.

Step 8

Secure the bracket to the wall with masking tape. Wait 48 hours for the adhesive glue to cure before removing the masking tape.

Step 9

Secure as many brackets as needed to the wall.

Step 10

Place the shelf on the brackets when the glue is dry. You can also glue the shelf to the wall for added security.
