SSD and Slow Boot After Reconfiguring the Motherboard
Unlike hard disk drives, solid-state drives contain no moving parts, instead they use flash memory to read and write data. SSDs last longer and perform better than their traditional counterparts, but altering the certain motherboard settings can cause slow boot times. SSDs can run in several different modes, but advanced host controller interface (AHCI) mode enables the disk to use features that improve disk performance. Upgrading the device's firmware can also improve slow boot times if reconfiguring the disk controller fails to resolve the issue.

Restart or turn on the computer. Press "Pause Break" to freeze the computer when the manufacturer's logo appears.

Check the screen for a message such as "Press <Key> for Setup" or "Press <Key> to Enter BIOS." Press "Pause Break" to resume the boot process and then tap the specified key.

Browse the setup utility for an option such as SATA Configuration, SATA Controller Mode or On-Chip SATA Mode. This option is often found on the Main, Integrated Peripherals or Advanced submenu.

Use the directional pad to highlight the option and then press "+" or "-" to change the setting to AHCI. Go to the "Exit" screen and select "Exit & Save Changes." Press "Enter."
Firmware Update

Back up all data on the disk. Download the latest firmware for the SSD from the device manufacturer's website. Right-click the ISO file that came packaged with the download and click "Burn Disc Image."

Insert a blank CD or DVD into the optical drive. Click "Burn" to write the firmware tool to the disc.

Connect the AC adapter to the computer and then plug the adapter into a wall outlet, if using a mobile PC.

Boot from the CD to run the SSD firmware update tool. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade.

Tips & Warnings
Don't perform a firmware update on the SSD unless the device is connected to one of the motherboard's native SATA ports. On most motherboards, these ports are numbered SATA0 to SATA3.
