How to Oil Rainbow Sandals

Keep rainbow sandals looking their best by using certain oils.

Rainbow leather requires different care than solid shades of leather. Many oils that are designed to condition and protect leather, such as Neatsfoot oil, may alter the color of the leather. Applying Neatsfoot oil onto rainbow leather sandals, for example, will ruin the original coloration of the leather permanently. Instead of Neatsfoot oil, apply mink oil onto rainbow-colored leather, which moisturizes and conditions the leather while maintaining the individual colors of the sandals.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Mink oil
• 2 soft cloths

Instructions

1. Lay a towel onto a tabletop, then place the rainbow leather sandals onto the towel. This protects your table and surrounding areas from accidental oil spills.

2. Pour a nickel-sized amount of mink oil onto a soft cloth, then apply the oil over the rainbow leather. Cover the leather on both sandals.

3. Allow the mink oil to soak into the rainbow leather for 15 minutes.

4. Wipe off the excess mink oil from the sandals using another soft cloth.

5. Rub the cloth over the leather to buff the remaining oil into the sandals using small, circular motions.

Tips & Warnings

• Find mink oil from any shoe store or specialty shop that sells shoe polish.

• Oil your rainbow sandals once per month to keep them properly conditioned.

• Do not use Neatsfoot oil on rainbow leather because it will darken and change the color of the leather.
