How to Skip Commercials With SageTV
SageTV, a free home theater PC program, lets you use your computer as a digital video recorder. SageTV allows you to you record shows and videos and then watch them at your leisure. Almost all television shows include several commercial interruptions. SageTV skips all commercials with the addition of two other programs, Comskip and DirMon2. With these programs installed, SageTV ignores commercials automatically, providing you with an advertisement-free TV experience.

Navigate to comskip.org and click the "Comskip files for downloading" link.

Click on "comskip80_042.zip" to start downloading the file. When downloading completes, right-click the file and click "Open."

Click "Extract To." Select the "SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\" folder. Click "Open" to extract the file to the selected folder.

Navigate to dragonglobal.biz and click on "Downloads." Click "Download Now" under DirMon2.

Click "Save File." When the download finishes, double-click the file to start installation.

Click "Next" on the installation screen. Click the button next to "I accept the agreement." Click "Next."

Click "Next," "Yes" and "Install." Click "Finish" to complete DirMon2 installation.

Launch DirMon2 and click on the "Job Management" tab. Click "New" and type a name for the new process.

Click "Add" under Directories. Select the directories on your computer that SageTV uses to record shows.

Click the "..." button next to the "Program to Run" box. Select the "comskip.exe" file.

Click the "Targets" box. Enter the file types that you set SageTV to record, such as "ts" or "mpg." Click the "File extension only" button.

Type your SageTV file types in the Must Exist boxes. Type "txt" and "edl" in the Must Not Exist boxes (omit quotation marks here and in subsequent typed commands).

Type "50" minus the quotes in the Resources Required box if you have a quad-core or dual-core computer. This allows Comskip to work faster.

Click the "Global Settings" tab. Click "Add" to open the Cleanup Settings box.

Type "log," "vprg," "txt" and "edl" in the Delete Files with These Extensions box. Type the SageTV file types in the box below. Click "OK."

Click the button next to "User" in the Run As box. Type your computer username and password. Click "File" and "Save."

Click the box next to "Start automatically at bootup." Click "Install" and "Start."

Launch Comskip and click "Detailed Setup." Click "Comskip Playback Options."

Set Commercial Auto Skip to Enabled.
