While it's well known that advertisements pay for the content you want to watch on television or the internet, it can still be annoying to watch the same advertisement over and over when you're checking out a favorite show. If you regularly use the MSNBC Video Player and want to find a way to disable the ads that come along with every piece of content, you'll find a solution in a plug-in for the Firefox browser. Once you install it, you'll have to use Firefox as your Internet browser to keep blocking ads.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Firefox Internet browser on your computer and navigate to the AdBlockVideo website.

    • 2

Click the "Agree to the Terms & Conditions" box near the top left of the page, and then click "Add to Firefox." Click "Save File" from the popup box that appears on your screen.

    • 3

Click "Tools" from the Firefox menu at the top of the screen, or -- depending on your Firefox display settings -- click the orange "Firefox" drop-down menu at the top left corner of the Firefox window. Click "Add-ons."

    • 4

Click the icon that looks like a gear near the top of the page and to the left of the "Search all add-ons" text field. Click "Install Add-on from File." Select the add-on you just downloaded from the files and folders on your computer, and then click "Open." The file is typically saved in your "Downloads" folder.

    • 5

Click "Install Now" or a similar function from the pop-up box that appears on your screen. Click the prompt to restart Firefox. The next time you use the MSNBC video player using your Firefox browser, the video ads should be disabled.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you also have AdBlock Plus installed on your Firefox browser, you will need to disable it to get AdBlockVideo to work. At the time of publication the two cannot work at the same time.
