How to Make Dreamweaver Compatible With Contribute
Adobe Dreamweaver website design software is fully compatible with Contribute, another website tool from Adobe Systems that allows groups of people to work together collaboratively to author, review and edit remotely hosted website content. Once activated, you can change existing Web pages in Dreamweaver or design and upload new Dreamweaver Web pages directly to the remotely hosted Contribute site. To enable Dreamweaver compatibility with Contribute, you must have remote access to the website’s server from your computer via a remote desktop service or through a File Transfer Protocol tool.
Instructions
-
-
1
Click “Site” in Adobe Dreamweaver’s main navigation menu. Select “Manage Sites” from the drop-down menu.
-
2
Click and select the site that you want to enable with Contribute in the list of websites. Click the “Edit” button to open the Site Setup dialog box.
-
-
3
Click “Advanced Settings” to expand the settings options list and then select “Contribute,” followed by “Enable Contribute Compatibility.” Click the “OK” button if Dreamweaver displays a confirmation dialog box, stating that you must enable Design Notes and Check In/Check Out features.
-
4
Type your email address and name into the applicable input boxes in the Check In/Check Out dialog window. Skip this step if you’ve already registered this information. Click “OK.”
-
5
Check that the Uniform Resource Locator address is correct in the Site Root URL text box in the Administer Site dialog window. Dreamweaver auto-completes this information but edit the URL if the address isn’t correct. Click the “Test” button to ensure that the URL works correctly.
-
6
Click the “Administer Site in Contribute” check box if you want to make administration changes in addition to content changes to the Contribute site. Otherwise, leave this check box blank.
-
7
Click the “Save” button and then click “Done.”

Tips & Warnings
The Administer Site dialog box in Step 5 also indicates if the Rollback feature is enabled in Contribute. If Rollback is activated, you can restore previous versions of the files that you’ve changed in Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver and Contribute compatibility isn’t available on remote site connections that use the WebDAV system. If in doubt, check with the Web hosting company or network administrator before enabling compatibility.
