What Kind of Eye Makeup if You're Over 50?
As you age, the delicate skin around your eyes starts displaying fine lines and wrinkles. Makeup can help camouflage these signs of aging. However, the thick eye makeup you used in your 20s and 30s is not flattering anymore. It can settle and cake into creases and lines, and accentuate your wrinkles. 1
Dab eyelid primer on the area above your eyes, from your eyelashes up to your eyebrows. Use your ring finger to evenly distribute the primer. This type of product fills in fine lines and wrinkles, so your eye makeup goes on more smoothly and lasts longer.

2
Conceal dark circles under your eyes. Use a concealer in a shade similar to your skin tone. Make a half-moon from the inner corner of your eye toward the outer corner. Pat the concealer onto your skin with your ring finger.

3
Apply a water-based foundation above and below your eyes. Use a foundation in a similar tint as your skin tone. Apply and distribute the foundation with a moist makeup sponge to achieve a sheer application. Or use a tinted moisturizer as an alternative.

4
Dust a light layer of translucent, loose powder over your eyelids and below your eyes to help set your makeup. Use a large powder brush to lightly dust your eye area.

5
Apply eye shadow above your eyes. Use a light-colored, cream or powder eye shadow from your eyelashes up to your eyebrows. Then apply a darker shade over the area from your eyelashes up to the creases of your eyes. Avoid frosted eye shadows. Choose matte versions of soft taupe, pink, plum, brown and peach shades.

6
Line your eyes with a gray or soft brown eyeliner -- powder or pencil. Use black eyeliner only if your hair is black. Line the top of your eyes as close as you can to your eyelashes. Thinly line the outer two-thirds of the lower lash lines. Swipe a cotton swab over the eyeliner to fade and soften it.

Apply mascara on your upper eyelashes, from the roots to the tips. Use black mascara only if your hair is black. Otherwise, use dark gray or brown. Wiggle the mascara wand as you swipe it through your lashes. Apply clear mascara to your lower lashes to avoid smudges.

8
Brush eyebrow powder over your eyebrows to emphasize them -- filling in any sparse areas. Use an eyebrow powder in a similar color as your hair. Follow the natural shape of your eyebrows.
