Towing a Saturn SL2
The SL2 is a midsize sedan manufactured by Saturn as part of its S-series sold by the company from 1990 to 2002. Whether the Saturn is broken down or if the owner has to move it for long distances, there is the chance the SL2 will have to be towed. The front bottom frame of the Saturn SL2 is equipped with chassis bars that will accept most standard tow bars. Preparing the Saturn for towing and then towing it will take less than an hour.
Instructions
-
-
1
Park the SL2 on a flat surface with no incline.
-
2
Place the tow bar's mounting plate against the chassis bar at the bottom front of the frame. Line up the holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the chassis bar.
-
-
3
Slip the mounting bolts through the holes in the mounting plate and the chassis bar.
-
4
Screw the mounting nuts onto the back of the bolt and tighten them as far as they will go first by hand.
-
5
Place the open-end wrench over the bolt head in front of the plate. Tighten the mounting nut with the socket set while holding the bolt in place with the open-end wrench.
-
6
Place the tow bar receiver hitch over the ball hitch on the towing vehicle, and then push down on the tow bar lock to lock it into place.
-
7
Drape the tow bar's safety chains around the front drivers side and passenger side motor mounts, and fasten the clamps on the ends.
-
8
Place the SL2 in neutral. Slowly back or pull the Saturn out of the driveway. Drive the tow vehicle with the Saturn attached to it to get the feel of the turn radius, and then tow the car to its destination.
