A leather jacket is not only a fashion item, it is an investment. Leather jackets are usually very expensive and when you buy one, you want it to last for years. As time goes by, your leather jacket can get damaged, and zipper issues are common. Instead of going out and purchasing a new leather jacket, you can put in a new zipper and you will be able to wear you leather jacket for at least another season. Does this Spark an idea?

      Turn the jacket inside out and place it on a flat surface. Cut off both sides of the zipper. Use a sharp scissors and cut the stitches while taking care not to cut into the jacket.

      Place the new zipper in the spot the old zipper had been. Take your time so that the bottom of both sides of the zipper are matching. Pull both sides of the zipper taut so the tops are also matching.

      Safety pin both sides of the zipper in place. The safety pins should be placed about 1 1/2 inches apart. Sew the first side of the zipper tightly and carefully. Once you have sewn the first side, remove the safety pins. Then sew the second side and remove the safety pins.

      Test the zipper by zipping it up and down several times. If you have sewn it tightly, you will be able to zip it in both directions very quickly. Then try on the jacket to make sure it looks right.
