Salicylic acid, derived naturally from willow bark, is most commonly used in its synthetic form and is the active ingredient found in most acne products. Commonly used for its antiseptic purposes, salicylic acid cleanses the pores by removing debris such as sebum and dead skin cells to prevent acne breakouts. In its synthetic form, salicylic acid can produce skin irritation, in particular excessive dryness and redness. Things You'll Need

  • 3 to 4 dried willow leaves
  • 3 to 4 drops willow bark extract
  • 2 cotton pads
  • 1 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Willow Tree Leaf Face Cleanser

      Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Crush or tear dried willow leaves into tiny pieces.

      Measure out 2 to 3 tablespoons of the dried willow leaves. Pour the leaves into the boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes.

      Let the water completely cool until it is lukewarm. Apply wash to face using a cotton pad.

    Willow Tree Bark Extract Face Cleanser

      Put three to four drops of willow tree bark extract into 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Mix thoroughly using your index finger.

      Immerse a cotton pad into the water and hold for a few seconds. Squeeze out excess water from the cotton pad.

      Press the cotton pad firmly onto the affected areas of your skin. Hold for three minutes and repeat on other areas.

Tips & Warnings

  • Limit washing your face to twice daily, as washing more than this amount may cause undesirable irritation.

  • Do not use willow bark extract if you are allergic to aspirin.
