Create a custom bedspread for a sports-themed bedroom.

Make your own twin-sized bedspread to complement a sports-themed bedroom. Creating your own bedspread allows you to use specific colors, images and patterns that create a custom look. For example, if you want a room that celebrates your child's favorite sports, such as football and soccer, you can create a bedspread that focuses on those two sports and leaves the rest out. Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry two flat sheets or fabric that you plan to use for the bedspread to pre-shrink the material. Choose fabric or sheets with patterns that you like, such as images of sports equipment, professional athletes or your favorite sports teams.

    • 2

Measure a twin-size comforter or blanket to determine the proper measurements for your bedspread. Your fabric or sheets should be at least 2 inches longer and wider than the comforter or blanket to provide a seam allowance.

    • 3

Iron both pieces of fabric. Fold one-half inch of each edge over onto the rough side of the fabric to create even edges. Iron the folds. Do this with both sheets or pieces of fabric.

    • 4

Lay the pieces of fabric on top of each other with the finished sides facing each other. Line them up.

    • 5

Sew the two long sides and one of the shorter sides together using a simple stitch on a sewing machine. Use fabric adhesive if you don't have a sewing machine.

    • 6

Hem the edges of the fourth side of both pieces of fabric for a clean look. Sew buttons every few inches along the fourth side of the blanket. Other options include snaps, a zipper or Velcro.

    • 7

Turn the bedspread inside out so the finished sides are facing out. Stuff the comforter or blanket inside, pushing the corners in place.

    • 8

Close the fourth side by buttoning or zipping it together.

    • 9

Use a long needle and thread to sew sports shapes or sports equipment appliques onto the bedspread if you want extra embellishments.
