Measure your wall space so that you will know how tall an item can be and still fit against your wall. Some older homes have extremely slanted ceilings that only leave a couple of feet between the edge of the ceiling and the floor, making them harder to work with than those that fit a full 8 feet of wall in between ceiling and floor.

Select decor items that will fit against your walls. Small bookshelves and curio cabinets, as well as paintings and pictures, can create a nice decorating theme.
