How to Do Magic Trick Card Changes in the Hand
Magicians use a magic trick technique called sleight of hand, which refers to a speedy and agile hand movement that they perform to make cards disappear or reappear. Sleight of hand happens so quickly, and master magicians can disguise it so well, that card trick audiences do not even realize it is occurring. If you want to do magic card tricks, practice some sleight of hand techniques.

1
Hide one card from a separate deck of cards up your sleeve. Do not let anyone see that you have a card hidden there. Keep the card near the inside of your wrist.
-
2
Cut a deck of cards in front of the audience. Ask for an audience member to volunteer for the rest of the card trick. When the volunteer arrives on stage, tell the volunteer to count the cards to show the audience that you are working with a full deck, and that no cards are missing from the deck. This gives the illusion that nothing is out of the ordinary.

3
Place the full deck, face-down, in front of the volunteer. Tell the volunteer to tap on the top card. Reveal the top card by lifting it up from the top of the deck and displaying it to the audience.
-
4
Put the card back, face-down, on top of the deck of cards. As you do this, shake down the card that is hidden in your sleeve, placing it on top of the card you just laid down. Do this quickly so that nobody sees.
-
5
Ask the volunteer to tap twice on the deck of cards. Reveal the new top card, and it will look as though the card magically changed into a new card.

Tips & Warnings
Another variation on this card changing trick is to use sleight of hand to pull a second card through the deck, hide it between your fingers and set it on top of the deck after the volunteer puts the card back on top of the deck. In this variation, you do not rely on long sleeves to hide the card.
