Instructions

  1. Cut and Bend and Shape Wire

    • 1

Cut off 6 to 8 inches of wire, depending on how big you want the cage to be. The type of wire gauge used is your choice, according to the website Inspire With Wire. The lower the gauge, the more wire you will need. You can use silver or gold wire, and soft or hard wire. Soft wire is easier to bend.

Hold one end of the wire with round-nose pliers. Bend the wire around to make a little loophole. Place the loophole in between the pliers and twirl the wire up and around three or four times to create a flat spiral. Use your fingers to keep twisting the wire to make a bigger wire spiral.

    • 3

Repeat Step 2 on the other end of the wire, except bend it in the opposite direction as the first spiral. Make sure it is the same size as the first spiral.

    • 4

Bend both spirals around in opposite directions until they meet in the middle.

    Creat Wire Cage

    • 5

Slide the middle of one wire spiral onto the end of one side of the round-nose pliers. Push down to create a half-cone shape. Repeat this to the other spiral. Make sure both wire spirals are facing up in the same direction.

    • 6

Put your thumb in the middle of the two half-cone spirals and push together gently to create the wire cage. Adjust the cage as needed with pliers to ensure a smooth shape.

    • 7

To make a bail, pull one end of cage up with pliers and bend it around to make a small loop.

    • 8

Open the cage and put in a bead, marble, stone or jewel of your choice.
