How to Get Rid of the Side Bar on Your Playlist on Tumblr

How to Get Rid of the Side Bar on Your Playlist on Tumblr thumbnail
Tumblr works with several music players to display playlists.

Tumblr is a free blogging platform that offers users the chance to post articles, updates, music and videos for others to see. The platform also allows users to feature activities such as music playlists from other services that are compatible with the Tumblr software. Users who wish to remove this information from their sidebars must change part of the HTML code that is used to determine what viewers see on the sidebar when they visit a Tumblr blog.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your Tumblr account and click on your dashboard.

    • 2

Click on the "Tools" option from your dashboard.

    • 3

Click "HTML" to see the code for your blog.

    • 4

Scroll down in the HTML code until you find text that says <section id=”side”>. Alternately, you can hit the "Control" and "F" buttons simultaneously, which brings up a search box. Past the code into the box and it will find the code for you.

    • 5

Highlight the code next to the <section id=”side”> code, which is the code used to create the music playlist sidebar. It should have <section> and </section> tags.

    • 6

Delete all the highlighted section code, which will remove the playlist sidebar.

    • 7

Click "Save" to keep the changes. Visit your blog to ensure the changes took and the playlist sidebar is removed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before you make changes to your HTML code, it is useful to copy the entire code into a separate file for safekeeping. If you make a mistake when editing the code, you have a copy to paste in to restore it back to the original state.
